How To: Film & Historical Context

Use the following questions to guide your understanding of historical context in film. This helps provide context for HTY 318 Modern Europe. 

  1. What is purely fiction and what is based on acutally facts?
  2. What are the social themes?
  3. If the film is based on a book, what about the author's life helped inform the work?
  4. What historical events were occuring at the time that shaped the characters, and how do the characters reflect the time period?
